How High Must One Work from a Ladder?

The short answer:

Always remember to read the operating instructions that should accompany any ladder. With a user manual you can always make sure that the ladder is used correctly and as safely as possible - of course together with the user's common sense.

In the case of loose ladders, you may only use them for shorter duration work - Max 30 minutes at a time and no more than a third of the total working day. So, if there is a need for ladders for work, then it is important to think about workflows.

Work from the ladder must be done so that no more than an arm's length is extended from the ladder. And then you must move the ladder then.

Remember to use suitable and/or mandatory footwear for ladder work and never come closer to the ladder than standing on the third upper ladder.

In principle, it is never allowed to make structural changes on a ladder.

Formation

Always place the ladder on a level surface. Therefore, always make sure to compensate if the underlay is not enough.

Single ladders and composite ladders must always be set up with the correct slope of 75 degrees. And always make sure to keep them safe from skidding.

If you use the ladder as an access road, the ladder must extend at least 1 meter above the access point.

Control

Have your ladders thoroughly examined by an expert at least once every 12 months. Please keep a log and service journal above.

Damaged and defective ladders must not be used.
